This cemetery, which has existed since the middle of the 6th century, is located on the hill called Bağlarbaşı. The oldest tombstone in the cemetery is dated 1637. The cemetery has an area of 14 thousand m2. The northern part of this area, which is divided into two, was allocated to the Surp Haç Church and the southern part to the Surp Garabed Church in 1555. Its borders were determined in 1884. The main benefactor of the cemetery was the Diyarbakır muleteer Atam, who died in 1718.
There are magnificent and ornamented monumental tombs and tombstones in the cemetery, which attract attention like rare works of art.
