In a title deed dated 1706, we come across a school called Surp Haç under the name of Muallimhane. The famous fires of Üsküdar reduced the school building to ashes in 1791, 1825 and 1846. The building was rebuilt for the last time in 1892. In 1919, a section of the school was converted into an orphanage until 1938. In 1953, with the efforts of Patriarch Karekin I. Haçaduryan, Surp Haç School was converted into a seminary with middle school, high school and theology departments. The theology department was closed in 1967 and the school continued its existence under the name Surp Haç High School. The school, which was converted to mixed education in 1987-1988, now provides four-year high school education. The fiftieth anniversary of the foundation of Surp Haç School was celebrated in 2003.
The foundation status of the institution, which had problems with its foundation status after the 1980s, was re-recognized by the General Directorate of Foundations in 2012.
