It was built of wood by Misak Amira Misakyan in 1840. The church, which is still in use today, was rebuilt in masonry in 1885. It underwent a radical restoration for the last time in 2004, was consecrated by Patriarch Mesrob II, and reopened for worship.
In the courtyard is the marble tomb of Misak Amira Misakyan, the benefactor and founder of the church.
