This stone-built church was founded in 1855 and opened for worship in 1857 by Patriarch Hagop III. The church’s first bell tower was constructed through the benefaction of Baghdasar Hagopyan.
In 1988, the current bell tower was built, and the foundation of the church was reinforced as part of renovation works. The church consists of a single nave and an altar, and it also includes two chapels. The first priest of the parish, Senior Father Dionisios Chizmeciyan, was also among the first Armenians to settle on the island. The church mainly serves the faithful who spend the summer season on the island for vacation. Near the church are the Patriarchate’s summer residence and the Karagözyan Orphanage Retreat House.
