SURP HRIPSIMYANTS ARMENIAN CHURCH, BOYACIKOY

This church is located at the farthest point on the European side of the Bosphorus. Built by brothers Kevork and Garabed Karakehya, it opened for worship in 1848. Rebuilt in 1886 in masonry at a cost of 15,000 kuruş, the church’s ceiling and roof were also renewed. The church’s walls, priest’s lodge, and dome collapsed in the 1894 earthquake. Thanks to the generosity of Apraham Pasha Yeramyan, it was repaired in 1927, and the bell tower was built. The church has undergone various repairs, the most recent of which was carried out through the philanthropy of the Küpelyan family.
