It was first built in 1849 during the reign of Patriarch Hagopos III. Seropyan in the Sarayiçi district of Gedikpaşa. After it was reduced to ashes due to a fire, it was rebuilt in 1876 during the reign of Patriarch Nerses Varjabedyan. It was later restored during the reign of Patriarch Madteos İzmirliyan and opened for worship in 1895. The church building, which remained neglected and half-ruined for many years, was finally restored in 1950. Although it was renovated after the fire in 1972, it was restored from the foundations in 1986 and opened for worship by Patriarch Şınorhk.
The church was last repaired in 2006 and opened for worship by Patriarch Mesrob II.
