It was built in 1844 by the famous gunpowder master Hovhannes Bey Dadyan, upon the request of Armenian workers in the gunpowder factories in Baruthane and Zeytinburnu. The church was later repaired by decree in 1847.
The last repair of the church took place in 1999 and was commissioned by the Kadasetli Patriarch Mesrob II.
The church was blessed by his hand and opened for worship.
